Buy Natural Health Supplements as Nature Intended
Why Buy Natural Health Supplements Instead of Synthetic?
Are you looking to buy natural health supplements? Do you know what natural health supplements are? Do you know the difference between natural health supplements and synthetic health supplements?
Before you buy natural health supplements, let's take a quick look at just what natural health supplements really are.
Natural health supplements are supplements that are found "naturally" occurring in nature. Synthetic health supplements on the other hand are "synthesized" or manufactured in the laboratory.
Synthetic supplements are designed to mimic the molecular structure of the supplements they are attempting to imitate. But are these synthetic supplements a perfect match?
Vitamin D
Synthetic Vitamin D for instance is called vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol. It is synthesized from fungal and plant sources. Natural Vitamin D is called Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol and is derived from animal sources.
Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol is what is produced by your body after exposure to sunlight.
The Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) says this about the two forms of Vitamin D: "The only structural difference between vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 is in their side chains. The side chain of vitamin D2 contains a double bond between carbons 22 and 23 and a methyl group on carbon 24."
I certainly don't know what that means but I do know that I am being told that the two forms of Vitamin D are different.
I don't know about you, but when I look to buy natural health supplements, I am going to be looking for the natural form of Vitamin D called cholecalciferol.
Vitamin E
How about Vitamin E? Well the natural form of Vitamin E is called d-alphatocopherol. The synthetic form of Vitamin E is called dl-alphatocopherol.
Natural vitamin E is found in fatty portions of meats and certain vegetable oils. The Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) has this to say about how the synthetic form of Vitamin E is made: "Synthetic vitamin E, which is produced by coupling trimethylhydroquinone with racemic isophytol..." WHAT?
The PDR says this about natural Vitamin E vs. synthetic Vitamin E: "The activity of natural or natural-source alpha-tocopherol (RRR alpha-tocopherol), on an equal weight basis, is at least twice as high as synthetic alpha-tocopherol. This is mainly because half of the stereoisomers of synthetic alpha-tocopherol are not maintained in human plasma and are, therefore, not bioavailable."
What this means is that you would need twice as much synthetic Vitamin E as you would natural Vitamin E to gain the same benefits!
I don't know about you, but when I go to buy natural health supplements I'm looking for Vitamin E in the form of d-alphatocopherol..
The vitamins listed above are what are called fat soluble vitamins. These two along with Vitamin A (but not beta carotene) are stored by our bodies. High levels of the synthetic versions of these vitamins have been responsible for cases of vitamin toxicity. No known cases of vitamin toxicity have been reported with the natural forms of these vitamins.
